The B Team played host to East Sussex
on Saturday 21st November.

A very grey start to the day weatherwise, but everyone made it to be venue on time.

The squad:
Mary Brown, Edna Burridge, Kay Debenham, Peter Debenham, Les Franks, Tony Hayes, Alan High, Pat High, Derek Hubert, June Hubert, Jack McMenamin, Brenda Neil, Pauline Pamment, Sue Pledger, Sue Quarterman, Ron Taffs, Keith Willingham, Linda Willingham, Dave Woods and Josh Woods.
Reserver:  Ray Sapsford

East Sussex were two players short so Jean Baxter and Ken Church completed their squad and played in separate teams making up their fours.

Format:
1st Session:  Singles and Pairs
2nd Session:  Triples and Fours
Lunch
3rd Session:  Singles and Pairs
4th Session:  Triples and Fours

It was nice to revert to this format and all have lunch at the same time - very social.

Both sides scored 178 shots, but unfortunately East Sussex won more games so won the day - Essex 18 points East Sussex 22 points, but Essex got their own back by winning all the raffle prizes.   Congratulations to East Sussex - we hope to give East Sussex back the Wooden Spoon when we visit them on the 27th February.

Our next game is home to London on the 9th January.

The B Team take this opportunity to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Report

We, of course, adopted the additional ends to the Triples and Fours games, but did find that if affected timings so it meant that we could not have a break where everyone had lunch at the same time.

In the first session of single games we lost one and drew one, but lost on both mats in the Fours.
Second session we won one pair and one triple. Third session we won one single and both fours. Fourth session we only won one game - a pair.

The overall result was Essex 13 points (163 shots) Kent 27 points (213 shots)

Despite the score some of the games were quite tight and they were all played in a friendly, but
competitive atmosphere.

Once again thanks to Ursula for a well organised day.

We are at home to East Sussex on the 21st November.

The fifth session was once again an Essex victory winning on 3 mats. Could Essex maintain their winning ways in the penultimate session, "Not quite,  they won on 1 and drew on another leaving Kent with 2 wins and a draw. The final session was once again shared 2 games apiece.

Report by Linda Willingham

Essex vs East Sussex

Apologise for the delay in this report

The B squad played their 3rd game of the season and final game of 2014 on 29th November at home to East Sussex.

I had a full squad comprising of Ron and Audrey Taffs, Sue and Bob Quarterman, Ray Sapsford, John May, Alan and Pat High, Barry Clark, Les Franks, Brenda Neil, Pauline Pamment, Joan Southon, Derek Coates, Edna Burridge, Dave Faulkner, Derek Hubert, Kay Debenham and two under eighteens, Harrison and Luke.

I umpired for the day.

Essex won 4 and drew 2 games in the first session and won 3 games after lunch with an overall score of Essex 22 points and 196 shots and East Sussex 18 points and 163 shots which meant the wooden spoon went home with East Sussex.  It was a good day's bowling and everyone enjoyed themselves and we look forward to going to East Sussex next year.

The two under eighteens made a good contribution towards Essex's win.

The squad's next game is on the 10th January 2015 at home against London.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous 2015.

Ursula Sapsford

"B" Squad Manager

Essex Away to London

The B Team visited London on the 9th November for their second game with a much better result.

Ursula was supported by a full squad this time as mentioned below:-

Essex only managed to win one game during the first session with a couple of close losses.

In the second session we managed a draw an a win with yet another couple of close losses.

Break for lunch which must have inspired us as we won three games in the third session.

In the final session we once again won three games so lunch must have carried on working.

The final result Essex 23 points (204 shots) and London 17 points (167 shots).

Congratulations to all and once again everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

Next game - Home to East Sussex on 29th November. Good luck to all.

The games were, as usual, played in a very friendly atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

Essex B team  Vs Kent Invicta

As arranged our return fixture with Kent Invicta took place at East Hanningfield on the 23rd August.
Thanks to all Ursulaís resources Essex managed to field a full squad (32 players) for this return event played on 4 mats of Fours.

Essex were successful on 3 mats in the first session, but unfortunately Kent managed the same on the second session taking us into the third session all even,  Kent won on two mats, Essex won on one with a draw on the other.  The fourth session was even with each team winning on two mats.

Kent were more successful in the fifth session winning on two mats and a draw on one with Essex taking the other win.   Essex managed wins on all games in the sixth session, but unfortunately lost 7 on the seventh.

All down to the last session in which Kent won all games!!! The end result Essex 27 points (183 shots) and Kent 37 points (195 shots).

Despite the result everyone seemed to enjoy the day and the games were once again all played in a very friendly manner. Thanks to everyone who assisted in getting the equipment in and out and manning the kitchen during the course of the day.

We look forward to the new season with our opening match against, you guessed it Kent on the 25th October.

Congratulations to Kent

Essex B team Vs Kent Invicta

Ursula Sapsford kindly organised a friendly against Kent Invicta at Snodland on Saturday 12th July.
The format was 12 teams of triples played on 6 mats. Unfortunately at the last minute some people withdrew from the Essex B team which meant that some people had 5 games and the rest of the deficiency was made up by 3 Kent players.

The day started at 9.30 and the first two sessions were drawn with each team winning on 3 mats.   In the third session Essex managed 4 wins, but then in the fourth session we only managed 1 win and 3 draws.   The fifth session we achieved 2 wins however in the remaining 3 sessions we achieved 4 wins in each of the sessions.   Great win for Essex 55 points to 41.

Well done Essex.

Thanks to those who played 5 games which involved them playing 3 games without a break and also thanks to the 3 Kent players who assisted so that we could field full teams for each game.

A Big thanks to Ursula for organising a smooth running day.

There is a return match at East Hanningfield on the 23rd August, but it will be a fours format.

Report by Linda Willingham

Essex hosted a game at East Hanningfield on the 8th February 2014 against Buckinghamshire.

The first session went well for Essex winning on 3 mats to gain 7 points as to Bucks 3. The second session was reversed so at lunch time the points were evenly shared 10 each. Unfortunately in the third session we lost on 3 mats making the points 13 to Essex and 17 to Bucks. In the final session the points were shared 5 apiece meaning that Bucks won by 22 points to 18 (Essex 143 shots, Bucks 182 shots)

The games were played in a friendly atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

Will try and reverse the result when we visit them on the 1st March.

The B team visited East Sussex on the 1st March for a very pleasant day's bowling

In the first session consisting of Singles and Pairs the honours were shared and each side had 4 points The second session consisting of the Triples and Fours went Essex's way and at lunch time Essex hhad 13 points and East Sussex 7.

Essex managed to keep ahead for the next 2 sessions and won the day 25 points (187 shots) to East Sussex 15 points (153 shots).

We were made to feel most welcome and in addition to the bowling many amongst us purchased the latest East Sussex quiz (cryptic clues to games and game shows)

The next game is away to Buckinghamshire.

Again thanks to Linda Willingham for her reports on the "B" team.

Saturday 22nd March 2014 - saw Essex travel to High Wycombe for a game against Buckinghamshire

We missed this match last year due to snow!!!!!

We were, as usual, made to feel welcome and started the day with singles and pairs and Essex achieved wins on every mat. The honours in the second session of triples and fours were shared. The raffle took place during our lunch break leaving us refreshed for the afternoon session.

Unfortunately we lost on three mats straight after lunch. The final session again honours were shared giving us a total of 9 games. The bonus points were also evenly shared so I am happy to report that Essex gained 22 points (192 shots) and Bucks gained 18 points (172 shots) so another win for Essex.

The day was really enjoyable with great bowling despite a slightly depleted squad which resulted I some players playing in 3 games.

Ursula has arranged a couple of friendly games with Kent, away on the 12th July for which she needs 36 players so if you are available please let her know. And home on the 23rd August.

Ursula's contact details are on the County website.

Thank you to Linda Willingham for the report.
